EP466: Dr Robert Cialdini - How To Become A Powerful & Sought After Thought Leader

“To persuade, speak not to argument. Speak to self-interest.” - Ben Franklin

“In terms of thought leadership you have to differentiate yourself from the herd, from what most people are doing in a standard and conventional way. And then you get the chance to be seen as someone who’s leading on that topic or in a new direction on that topic.”

Dr. Robert Cialdini was a researcher, academic, scholar, and teacher when he realised that it wasn’t enough to live in a world of seemingly artificially constructed studies on human behaviour. So he differentiated himself from the confines of standard research and became a thought leader who blew open the doors of his research for the masses who were genuinely interested and could benefit from it. In an effort to discover more about persuasion, Dr. Cialdini began covertly educating himself within the training programs of several industries that rely heavily on persuasion. He discovered seven universal principles that can be harnessed for success. This became his first book, Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion which has sold over 5 million copies. He’s since written 4 more books of the subject of persuasion and his organisation, Influence At Work will be launching a new program called the Cialdini Institute in June 2023.

Today, Dr. Ciandini takes a deep dive into persuasion with a special emphasis on the 7th principle. He takes us through the process of persuasion, how it works, and how to implement it ethically and effectively. Other topics covered include developing true thought leadership through originality, the difference between thought leadership and thought followership, and several suggestions for how to monetize your persuasive thought leadership through unity strategies.

EP462: Tim Leatherman - Build A $200 Million A Year Brand - Top 10 Tips For Success

While travelling in Europe with his wife for six months, Tim Leatherman made a practical note to modify his pocket knife to include a pair of pliers. Later, he saw the potential in that idea and started on the path to becoming the world’s first and, to this day, the world’s leading multitool producer. It took a few years to get things started and involved tremendous support from his wife and eventually his business partner, Steve Berliner, who helped Tim through the final stages of bringing Leatherman Knives to the market. In their first successful year, they hoped to sell 4000 knives but when Cabela’s, then only a mail order catalogue, featured their knives, they quickly sold 30,000 and attracted a lot of attention from L.L. Bean, Sharper Image, Neiman Marcus, and Eddie Bauer. Ten years later they sold 1 Million knives in one year.

Leatherman Knives was founded and remains in Tim’s home city, Portland, Oregon. They pride themselves on being almost entirely owned and operated in the United States. Today, Tim talks about the need for competition for raising standards in business, taking inspiration and advice from outside sources like partners and projects, and other lessons learned from 40 years in business.

EP461: TL Nuggets #105 - Fear + Doubt

“The problem that people are having today is there’s a lot of fear that they’re feeling inside but they’e not facing it. They’re trying to burry it.”

The media loves fear and there’s plenty going on in the world today that they can use as material to spread it. Of course it’s true that scary things are happening, but it’s up to you how you  react. Will you let fear and the fear mongers disable you and keep you from serving others and fulfilling your dreams? Or will you stare the fear down, looking for the abundance of opportunities THAT ARE THERE to serve others while fulfilling your dreams?

EP460: Peter Kirsanow - How To Become A Published Writer

“If you’ve taken the time to write something, it’s probably going to be something that there’s a market for, that somebody’s going to want to read. Otherwise you wouldn’t have been inspired to write it. It’s not as if you’re just doodling for your own pleasure. The question is how big is the market and is someone able to discern the size of that market.”

An author knows the immense satisfaction that comes from connecting with thousands or millions of people through written word. Peter Kirsanow is an author who prides himself in upholding the traditional values that he believes make the United States great and powerful. He's a true patriot, an author of thriller novels, a lawyer, and he’s the longest standing US Civil Rights Commission member. His experience as lawyer and the fact that many of his family members serve in the military, air force, and navy allows him to depict reality very accurately and has attracted attention from navy SEALS who’ve contacted Peter directly to say as much. Peter's first book, Target Omega, was published in 2016. The sequel, Second Strike, was published less than two years later. Peter then joined the W.E.B Griffin series, Men At War, with The Devil’s Weapons in 2022.

You can learn more about Peter Kirsanow at Penguin-Random House publications.
